0505091256_m_deluise_dom8Dom DeLuise was famous for his roles in “The Cannonball Run,” “Blazing Saddles” and “Spaceballs”.  He died Monday evening in his sleep around 6 p.m.  He was 75 years old.

DeLuise was born in Brooklyn in 1933 to John and Vincenza DeLuise. He graduated from the Manhattan School of the Performing Arts before performing in off-Broadway shows in the 1960s.

The movie that I will remember him best in was, “Fatso”.  If you have not seen it you should.  I don’t know why it was not a big hit.  Many movies that I like were not big hits, however, this one shows what it is like trying to lose weight and how difficult it is to gain support to do so.  It has many memorable scenes in it.  Anne Bancroft plays his sister and is one of the many great supporting actors in the movie.

Mr. DeLuise just seemed to be an honest man who loved life and those who were around him.  It has  been said that no one heard him ever to say a bad thing about anyone.  I don’t doubt it.  He loved to laugh and make other laugh just as hard…or harder.  It’s sad to lose some one like this great man because no matter how you felt at the time, he always seemed to cheer you up when you remembered his antics, caught one of his interviews, or seen his work displayed on stage or screen.

Your rest is so well deserved, Mr. DeLuise!  May the Good Lord grant you a mansion near the one I’m to occupy if I am honored to get up there!
